Queen of South 2-0 Morton- Report

Last updated : 16 March 2011 By DSG

Colin McMenamin and William McLaren struck first-half goals as Queen of the South cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Morton.

Going into the game on the back of three successive defeats, the Doonhamers seemed to determined to impose themselves from the off.

And that tactic served them well as they took a 16th-minute lead through McMenamin.

The Morton backline fatally backed off the striker and, 25 yards from goal, he unleashed an unstoppable shot past Kevin Cuthbert.

Not content with one, the hosts pushed for a second and got it 10 minutes later through McLaren, who had just replaced the injured Allan Johnston.

The visitors were again guilty of allowing too much space as McLaren finished with aplomb from the edge of the area.

Morton desperately tried to get back into the game thereafter, but, despite creating several half-chances, were unable to break through.

And their hopes evaporated all together when Sean Fitzharris was sent off for serious foul play in the 83rd minute.
