Morton 1-1 Hibernian- Match Report

Hibernian have to settle for draw with Morton

Hibernian reclaimed their place atop the Scottish Championship but failed to give themselves breathing space after being held to a 1-1 draw at Morton.

Hibs had the opportunity to go two points clear at the top of the second tier, after Dundee United drew a blank at Raith, but in the end they were grateful for a point when Jason Cummings' free-kick immediately cancelled out Gary Oliver's strike.

It was Oliver who had the first sight at goal as he fired over from close range, while Jamie McDonagh found the side-netting from a tight angle after good build-up play.

Ross Laidlaw saved well from Michael Tidser's low drive while at the other end Lewis Stevenson's booming strike was just over as the teams went in at the break goalless.

Laidlaw did brilliantly to keep out McDonagh's effort before his net was finally breached in the 79th minute when Oliver struck from close range after McDonagh clattered the bar.

Their lead lasted only two minutes, however, after Cummings found the net with his set-piece after Kris Commons had been fouled by Gavin Gunning as the spoils were shared.
