Morton moved to third spot in the league after a comfortable win over punchless Arbroath. A goal in each half was enough.

The home side dominated completely from the start. Derek Collins's cross found Chris Templeman in splendid isolation in Arbroath's penalty box, but the tall striker hesitated, perhaps fearing an offside flag, and Neil Inglis smothered the threat.

Templeman then broke clear on the right and his low cross to the near post was clutched by the alert Inglis just as Peter Weatherson arrived. Shaun Dillon swept over a fine cross for Templeman at the back post but his header, which beat Inglis, was hacked off the line by Jamie Bishop.

Jim McAlistair burst clear and fired in a powerful swerving drive which seemed set to open the scoring until the heroic Inglis flung himself to his left to complete a wonderful save.

Inglis was finally beaten nine minutes before the interval. Alan Mahood released Paul Walker on the left flank, and the lively forward's precise cross was met powerfully by the head of Chris Millar from six yards.

McAlister was denied after the break when his header was held by Inglis, but the points were secured when Paul Walker raced clear - on the right this time - and passed inside to Templeman, who cleverly transferred the ball to his left foot and smashed a low left-footed shot beyond the grasping arm of the gallant Inglis.
