Forfar Athletic 3 - Morton 1

Last updated : 01 August 2004 By Nach0king
A Morton side, loaded with old faces and out-of-position players, succumbed to a heavy defeat against a confident-looking Forfar Athletic side.

Central midfield comprised of Marco Maisano and Scott Bannerman for much of the game; John Maisano came on to add an attacking touch, but contrived to receive two bookings in his short time on the pitch, receiving a red card and subsequent cup suspension.

It looked as if everything might go Forfar's way from the outset. A 2nd minute goal from Paul Shields put the Loons in front, before our own Paul Walker replied with a deflected goal from 25 minutes. Morton's concentration again faltered when two quick-fire goals from Shields and prolific striker Paul Tosh put the Forfar side 3-1 in front.

Paul Shields was sent off shortly after the 3rd goal, but Morton failed to capitalise on their advantage. With some players out of position and some clearly rattled by the pressure from the terraces, it is not looking good at all for the season opener at Berwick in a week's time.
