Forfar Athletic 2 Greenock Morton 0

Morton were no match for a fired-up Forfar side in last Night's rearranged encounter at Station Park.

However, it may transpire that it wasn't just three points that were surrendered, but all real hope the Greenock side have of pipping Stranraer to second place and promotion.

From the outset, Forfar flexed their muscles and Morton could do little to wrest the midfield grip away from the home side.

Not even Andy McLaren, who has made such a telling impact since joining on loan from Dundee United, could rustle any feathers in a tight-knit home defence.

The same could not be said for Morton, who looked less than sure-footed at the back. Taking advantage of naive defending, Ricky Waddell gave Forfar a first-half lead when his free-kick evaded everyone to end up in the corner of the net, much to the shock of Morton goalkeeper David McGurn.

Feckless in attack, and wreckless at the back, it went from bad to worse for Morton just before the hour.

Again pedestrian defending gifted Forfar a scoring opportunity and Paul Shield gleefully accepted by steering a shot across McGurn and into the far corner.
