Morton's promotion hopes took a severe dent at Station Park as they were held to a goal-less draw by battling Forfar.

The visitors were desperate for three points to try and close the gap on Stranraer, but at the end of the day they were disappointed as they could only draw.

Morton, backed by a huge travelling support, made the early running and forced a series of corners, but they were unable to turn their possession into clear-cut chances.

In fact the best opportunity in the first half fell to Forfar's Jay Stein who hit a sweet left-foot shot from the edge of the box which forced keeper David McGurn to dive full length and turn the ball past the post.

Forfar's Paul Shields had three good chances either side of the interval. The first just before the break saw him go close with a lob which forced the keeper to back-pedal, then after the break he was clear through on goal but shot weakly into McGurn's arms before stabbing a loose ball inches past the post.

Morton came more into the game as the half wore on, and substitute Paul Walker was only denied by a brave save at his feet by Michael Brown. Walker then set up Chris Templeman, but he blasted high over from the edge of the box.

In the closing minutes Templeman almost snatched the game with a glancing header which was not far off target.
