Brechin 2 Morton 1 Brechin continued promotion push with a fine victory over close rivals Morton.

Morton had the first chance in 3 minutes when Alec Williams burst through the middle and shot just wide.

Brechin had back and 7 minutes Paul Ritchie shot wide from a Chris Templeman pass then 4 minutes later Templeman played the ball across goal and John Adam did well to hook here.

Williams had the ball in the net for Morton in 15 minutes but was given offside.

Brechin opened the scoring in 18 minutes. Paul Deas swung in across which was headed on by Templeman and Graham Gibson vollied home.

Morton tried to hit back and in 24 minutes Williams crossed for Chris Miller to head wide from good position.

Back came Brechin and Kevin Byars dove just over then Craig Winter had a header saved by David McGurn.

Morton appealed for a penalty 2 minutes from half time when Williams went down in a tangle with Craig Nelson and David White did well to step in and clear with Peter Weatherson poised to score.

Brechin snatched their lead in the 60th minute when Templeman fastened on to a wall kick from Nelson and fired home a low left foot drive.

Morton hit back and 72 minutes a John Adam free kick just cleared the bar.

Morton were fortunate when they got a goal back in the 76th minute. A shot from Miller was heading well wide until it struck Paul Deas and floew into the net for an own goal.

Morton had Stuart McClusky booked for a foul on Biars in 84 minutes then 3 minutes later the big defender was oerdred off for remarks to the referee.
