Super Mac lifts Morton

Morton stemmed a run of four games without a win with a 1-0 victory which leaves Ayr floundering one point from the bottom of Division One.

The visitors slightly shaded a dull opening spell and went ahead in the 23rd minute courtesy of David O'Brien.

Top scorer Peter MacDonald broke free on the right and crossed for the former Dundee man to finish cleverly into the bottom corner.

Morton almost doubled their lead after 63 minutes, but Grant Evans shot wide when well-placed.

A lacklustre Ayr improved after the break, but struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities.

Substitute Ryan Connolly did have a chance to grab an equaliser seven minutes from time, but his shot from close range flew narrowly wide.
