Gazza Deal Now Officially Dead... Again

No doubt sick of all the hear-say and factual inaccuracies being thrown around, Morton chairman Douglas Rae has moved to once again confirm to the media that Gascoigne is simply not an option for the Morton job. The BBC report indicates that Rae made this decision based on Gazza's coaching record:

"I wrote to Gazza stressing that we were unable to consider him because of his lack of qualifications."

Now that we have the news straight from the horse's mouth, and in the national media rather than the Greenock Telegraph, hopefully that will put an end to the speculation regarding the former Spurs, Lazio and Rangers player. It seems, however, that the next clubs to suffer the wrath of Gazzamania will be Cowdenbeath and Raith Rovers. Last week, it was reported that Gascoigne wanted to invest heavily in non-league side Wisbech Town, a la Roman Abramovic, only on a totally Mickey Mouse scale.

The Guardian also reports that Gascoigne is seeking to change his name by deed poll, to draw a line under what he used to be, and to start afresh. Very noble, Paul, but unless you're going to walk about with a fake glasses-moustache combo on, people will still know it's you.
