Weatherson and Williams on the way out?

The Sunday Post found space between "Oor Wullie" and retrospectives on the ragtime scene of 1910s Dundee to print a small amount of footballing news today. Amongst this news was the revelation that Morton will listen to offers for enigmatic striker Alex Williams and English forward Peter Weatherson during the "January Sales", possibly with the aid of a Dickensian ear-trumpet.

Weatherson featured in yesterday's messing-up of Cove Rangers, dropping back into defence to deputise for the hobbled Stuart Greacen after scoring early in the first half. His departure was not anticipated by many Morton fans who opine that, despite "Spoonsy's" lack of good form over the last several months, has managed to at least find the net with something approaching regularity. Williams, on the other hand, has been dogged by terrible form for most of the season; even a good spell around October failed to produce any goals, despite a positive contribution overall.

With both players probably taking home pay packets made out of gold-plated golden gold coins, the sacks of turnips and Lidl's own-brand breakfast cereals offered by other clubs around Morton's levelmay not tempt the mitts of the "dynamic duo." It seems most likely that a higher division club may opt to take a gamble on them, or perhaps Gretna need a new pair of strikers just to keep things interesting... or more likely still, nothing will come of this at all.
