Scottish Cup First Round Draw Takes Place Today

Last updated : 19 October 2004 By Nach0king
With the Scottish Cup First Round almost upon us, Morton may today face non-league opposition for the second time in as many years. Last year's 4-0 defeat of Vale of Leithen is remembered as a scrappy affair in which Stuart Greacen succumbed to serious injury; this year, Morton fans will be hoping that they can get an easy draw but also avoid seeing their players come to harm.

The draw takes place at Glasgow University in around fifty minutes' time; your intrepid reporter is about to leave his flat to try to sneak in and witness the draw. I will then bolt to the library to keep you posted as to who we got, or if we got a bye.

Just for the record, the following teams are eligible for the first round:

All Third Division teams
All Second Division teams except Brechin and Ayr, who were relegated last season
Northern Qualifiers: Cove Rangers, Huntly, Inverurie Locos, Keith
Southern Qualifiers: Dalbeattie Star, Edinburgh City, Glasgow University, Whitehill Welfare

Full draw analysis will be forthcoming in an hour or two, assuming they let me into the draw. As well as not being a GUU Member in the first place (I am a QMU member), they may opt to keep workshy students like myself away from the dignitaries inside.
