McCluskey for Hamilton?

Rumours abound on certain messageboards that Hamilton are on the lookout for a defender with First Division pedigree who has played at both right-back and centre-back.

With Hamilton seemingly trying to sign every ex-Clyde player in a 100-mile radius, suspicions may fall on Morton's Stuart McCluskey. Before angering 'Ton boss Jim McInally last season, McCluskey was brought in to provide First Division experience and expertise, and alongside Stewart Greacen provided a relatively safe central pairing in defence. However, following McCluskey's fall-out with McInally, Ryan Harding, the ex-Livi youngster, was brought in to partner Greacen, with McCluskey now frozen out of first-team action.

Despite his tarnished record at Cappielow, Hamilton may see McCluskey as the ideal candidate to meet their defensive requirements. The 27-year old has seen First Division action with near-runners up Clyde last season, as well as several seasons with St. Johnstone in both the SFL and SPL. Similar to Morton's predicament with Andy McLaren, however (see front page), Hamilton, should their interest be confirmed, may have to undergo several contractual discussions before being able to bring McCluskey to New Douglas Park.
