Marc McCulloch Joins The Morton Exodus

Following rampant speculation on various messageboards and news sites, the rumour that Marc McCulloch is on his way out of Cappielow is seemingly about to come true.

The left-sided player, signed in the summer from Brechin City, has been dogged by injury and fitness issues, and as such has struggled to hold down a first team place. The arrival of Sean Dillon on loan until the end of the season seemed to confirm that Marco will be unable to secure a starting position this season, and as such, boss Jim McInally has decided that he has no more use for the former St. Johnstone star, who will be free to leave at the end of the season.

The news has surprised many fans, who recognise that, aside from Dillon, McCulloch is the only natural left-sided player at the club. Dillon is almost certain to leave at the end of the season never to return, with Kilmarnock interested in retaining his services. If McInally struggles to find a left-sided player during the close season, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Morton will start next season with no left-sided defenders at all.

As for the fate of McCulloch, rumours abound that Stirling and Forfar are in a two-way battle for his signature, with Arbroath a distant 3rd in the race for this signing.

McCulloch arrived at Cappielow in strange circumstances, with statistics from another player entirely - Mark McCulloch - being attributed to his namesake Marc in the Cappielow press release. However, aside from fitness and pace concerns, McCulloch has played well at Cappielow during the few matches in which he was available.
