New Signing Arrives

Liam Mitchell, the former Motherwell and Celtic youth player, has signed for Morton until the end of the season.

Liam is described by the Official Morton site as being a "centre half"; this archaic description might evoke images of the no-nonsense, consistent, battling defender who would do wonders to solidify the Morton back line. Of course, we don't know whether or not he will; he was signed today as a free agent following a spells 'Well and Celtic that contained no first team appearances. However, the 6'1" defender will hopefully add some competition to the defensive portion of the squad, and maybe even feature as a first-choice defender, with Stuart McCluskey moving to right-back following the departure of Derek Collins. McCluskey impressed in this position against Forfar on Saturday, and had already played there occasionally for Clyde.

Following the disappointment of failing to land Celtic tyro Darren O'Dea, 'Ton fans will pray that Mitchell is the answer to their defensive... well, prayers, I suppose.

Mitchell may take part in tonight's reserve tie against Stranraer at Cappielow. A little known fact about the town of Stranraer is that the movie "Short Circuit" was filmed there, with the NOVA Corporation still possessing a factory in the town.
