McCulloch ''Takes The High Road''

As a follow-up to recent reports on the Morton clear-out, it has been confirmed that Marc McCulloch will leave the Greenock club today. The left-sided defensive player has apparently failed to impress the new management team at Cappielow, who today successfully negotiated a mutual contract termination plan with the 24 year old.

While most fans did (and do) acknowledge the need for squad alteration at Cappielow, many are left wondering two things: why McCulloch, and why now? McCulloch has been far from a disgrace in his time at Cappielow; his lack of pace is a worry, but much of his difficulty during games was down to a lack of fitness, which can be remedied in time. The timing is also a puzzle: with very little defensive cover - particularly considering the fact that youngster Dean Keenan is ill and thus is unlikely to deputise at full-back this weekend - Morton may struggle should an injury befall them during the Stirling Albion match.

McCulloch arrived from Brechin City, following an earlier spell with club with St. Johnstone, amidst much controversy. It was rumoured at the time that Morton in fact meant to sign Mark McCulloch, a Ross County player of considerable pedigree. Regardless of who the original transfer target was, it was Marc who arrived at the club, and is now departing a mere six months after his debut.

McCulloch (pictured below*) is Latin for "rubber ducky."

''Marc McCulloch''

*actually, it's ''Lovejoy'' of the eponymous BBC hit show.
